If history (or comic books) teach us anything is that success needs teamwork. 

Chinwag knows this. With Social Media Week London 2013 powered globally by Nokia, coming up we want to introduce you to the Advisory Board whose support and brains ensure the event succeeds.

Here is the first half of the all-star team...

Sophie Brendel

Sophie Brendal Head of Digital Communications, BBC

Sophie is responsible for communications strategy, publicity activity and reputation management for the BBC’s digital services, including BBC Online, BBC iPlayer, mobile, connected TV, R&D, technology and archive. She also leads the Digital Engagement team, heading up the corporate websites and blog, social media activity across BBC communications, and finding new ways to engage audiences around BBC content, online.

Sophie formerly worked for Thomson Reuters in New York and London, most recently as Global PR Director for News, where she led PR strategy, media handling and issues management for Reuters editorial division of 2,500 journalists globally.

James Whatley

James WhatleyHead of Social Media at Ogilvy Soho Square

James has a history of building brands and communities for agencies and clients alike. Having cut his teeth in the mobile startups, James has a firm grip on all things digital & social, and uses this expertise and enthusiasm to drive online success across all aspects of his work. A keen blogger, James spends his spare time documenting the weird and wonderful things he finds and lists on his own website.

Leila Woodington

Leila Woodington

Marketing Communications Manager, Facebook

Leila is responsible for developing marketing initiatives, event programs and materials to deliver education, insight and partnership to brands and agencies to help them understand how to best leverage Facebook as part of integrated campaigns.

Prior to this, she managed B2B acquisition marketing at PayPal, focussing on large enterprise businesses and top tier SMEs. During her time there, she launched PayPal’s award-winning ‘Unwelcome’ and ‘Five Second Film’ campaigns.

Katie McPhee

Katie McPheeSenior Community Manager, Eventbrite

Katie joined Eventbrite from the BBC and was the company’s first employee in Europe. She manages Eventbrite’s UK social media channels; events; partnerships and a growing community of event organisers in the UK. Katie also works closely with event organisers advising on social media strategy.

Laila Takeh 

Laila TakehHead of Digital Engagement at UNICEF_UK

Laila has been working in digital for over a decade across a number of charities; MS Society, Action on Hearing Loss, British Heart Foundation and now UNICEF UK. She has a large amount of digital experience across fundraising, awareness and advocacy campaigns. With a background in computer science and visual arts she has equal concern for technology and creativity.

She has many hats, all focused around doing social good with digital, she’s organiser of London @Barcampnfp, member of the global Social & Community team for @twestival, member of an engagement advisory team for the Horniman Museum, and is a mentor via @charitycomms.
