Tech Writer Matt Cowan Interviews Sarah Wood & Scott Button, co-founders of Unruly

Founded in 2006 by Sarah Wood, Scott Button, and Matthew Cooke, Unruly was initially a 3 people company based in London's Truman Brewery, powering the Viral Video Chart. Now, Unruly employs around 160 people across 13 offices in 10 countries, with regional HQs in London, New York and Singapore. Unruly is the leading programmatic platform for social video advertising. Around 83% of Ad Age 100 brands used Unruly’s technology to reach and engage super-sharers across the Open Web. They have delivered 4.69 billion views across 9,200+ campaigns to a global audience of 1.27 billion monthly unique users.

We are super pleased to welcome Sarah & Scott, for a rare joint interviews, to talk about what their entrepreneurial journey so far and what lies ahead.


Sarah Wood  is Co-founder and COO of Unruly, where she ensures that the company delivers the most awesome social video campaigns on the planet. Sarah has been voted UK Female Entrepreneur of the Year by the Growing Business Awards, one of 15 Women to Watch in Tech by Inc., one of 10 London-Based Entrepreneurs to Watch by Forbes and a Rising Star in Computer Weekly’s Most Influential Women in UK IT.Sarah is an Associate Lecturer at the University of Cambridge, where she teaches a course in “Mash-Ups, Memes and LOLitics: Online Video Culture and the Screen Media Revolution” for the Screen Media and Cultures MPhil. She has been a member of Social Media Week’s Global Advisory Board since 2011 and is part of the Gazelle Group of Entrepreneurs, helping to foster a new generation of entrepreneurs.

Scott Button is Co-founder ans CEO of Unruly. He has 15 years’ experience in madtech. Before founding Unruly in 2006, he was CEO of Connextra, a venture-backed UK ad serving firm, which he led to trade sale in 2005. He holds an MA from Cambridge and a BPhil from Oxford, both in philosophy, and was named an E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year in 2012.

Matt Cowan is the Director of Media at Nelson Bostock Communications. Previously the European Technology Correspondent for Reuters TV and contributing writer to Wired UK, Matt has interviewed many of the tech sector’s most influential figures. He’s a great storyteller and great at getting others to tell their story.
