So far, I've had problems with my PC-produced sounds playing back, mostly
(or entirely) on Macs (no offense intended :) ). Movies that hold just
sounds sometimes come out as static or no sound at all. Other sounds are
accompanied by static or are entirely noise. I generally use 11- or 22-kHz
16-bit mono sounds (originally recorded at CD quality) that were converted
to Windows PCM by Cool Edit. I also use Cool Edit to normalize the sounds
(setting the level to 97% optimum). One thing I've found is that such a
level is still often too high for Flash to play, at least on some Macs, so
I have dropped the level by about half in the Flash sound level edit
window. A simpler way, if using Cool Edit, would be to normalize for 50%
optimum level.

At 16-bit, 11kHz PCM WAV format, some music will hold up to the Flash 4- or
5-bit ADPCM compression. Some sounds deteriorate too much with any Flash
compression. Generally it adds some white noise, so you have to decide if
you can live with that.
