get a copy of commotion 2.0 it has some very nice masking functions. you
"just" draw a (vector)path around your object in the first frame. then
adjust this path in the last frame (or next key/important frames)
commotion tweens this path for you. très cool!

commotion does the trick automatically if you filmed your object against
a blue or green screen (in fact any other color will do - but if you
filmed it against black and you object is black as well then bla bla ;
you know what i mean). you just pick the color you want to be
transparent. this can also be accompliced in Adobe AfterEffects. have
fun!
