Lucy,

It seems that there is now an increasing awareness of the potential of a
properly conducted SEO campaign. Many companies are building sites with
search engine compatibility/friendliness at the core of the design. There
has been a lot of people offering SEO services in the past, who have not put
more than the cost of a bit of software into there service R&D, and who now
recognise that a lot of work has to go into a coordinated strategy...

Add to that the multitude of development technologies and positioning
methods and it's all as clear as mud.

At the heart of any good service now is a complete results driven approach
measuring unique user numbers tracked to specific areas of the SEO campaign.
The result is a totally measurable solution which can be accurately compared
across the whole marketing strategy including banners, affiliates etc...

Position is vanity, profiled traffic is king!

I want to know if anyone has any thoughts on why companies seem to spend
such a small percentage of their online marketing budgets on SEO, Directory
submissions and directory advertising when supposedly 80% of people use
Search Engines and Directories as their first port of call in finding what
they want online.

I think it is astonishing that over 50% of UK websites are not even designed
to be picked up by search engines.

Does anyone know of examples where companies have forked out to ensure this
sort of coverage. The ROI is hundreds of times better than banner
advertising - yet people seem happy to throw their cash at banners.

I guess it is something to do with measurability - anyway I would be
interested in knowing everyone's thoughts on this............
